Fête de la Musique is celebrated across France, each year on the 21 June to mark the beginning of summer in style! It was initiated by Jack Lang, the French Minister of Culture, in 1982 and has become an international event, celebrated in over 100 countries around the world.
It is open to everyone, regardless of age, background, or musical style. Musicians of all levels and genres participate. One of the defining characteristics of the Fête de la Musique is that it takes place in public spaces—streets, parks, town squares, and other open areas. The emphasis is on participation rather than observation, making it a very inclusive, community event.
15 bands from Jersey and Normandy will play in the streets of St Helier from 12pm to 5pm. Join us in celebrating the Fête de la Musique for the very first time here in Jersey on Saturday 22 June!
This year’s events are brought to you by Af Jersey, ArtHouse Jersey, Jersey Opera House, and Maison de la Normandie et de la Manchein partnership with the Creative Island Partnership and with the support of the Département de la Manche, Bruno’s Bakery, The Royal Yacht.
